SEISMIC EVENT A 6.0 Richter earthquake was reported at 0222 PDT at 33.9' N, 116.6* W, about 10 miles north of Palm Springs, California. The earthquake actuated seismic alarms and recording instruments at San Onofre. An Unusual Event was declared for all three units at 0230, and procedures were implemented which provide for visual inspection of plant equipment and a start test of diesel generators. No damage was identified, and the UE was terminated at 0450. The installed seismic instruments actuate at 0.05g. The recorded data are still belug evaluated, but preliminary indications are that the acceleration at the site did not significantly exceed ths 0.05g threshold.

These did not affect the San Onofre site, although one of the two serves as an offsite power source (Devers line) to Palo Verde. The quake was also felt at Palo Verde, but no instruments triggered.
