SUMMARY

OF THE MAY 3, 2023, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE END OF CYCLE ASSESSMENT AND PRE-SUBMITTAL LICENSE RENEWAL PROCESS OVERVIEW FOR DIABLO CANYON POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 On May 3, 2023, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC, or the staff) held a public meeting with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to provide an overview of the license renewal process and also present the end of cycle assessment of safety performance at Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP), Units 1 and 2, for calendar year 2022. The slides for the NRCs and PG&Es presentation are available at Agencywide Documents Access and Management Systems (ADAMS) Accession No. ML23118A090 and ML23143A095, respectively.

Summary:

The NRC staff opened the meeting with a presentation on the end of cycle assessment of safety performance at DCPP, Units 1 and 2, for calendar year 2022 and an overview of the license renewal process. PG&E provided and overview on the background, timing and duration related to the DCPP license renewal activities. Following the presentations, several elected officials and members of the public provided comments and asked questions during the public comments portion of the meeting. The comments provided varied and included both support for and opposition to license renewal.
