OF AUGUST 5, 2021, PUBLIC MEETING ON PROPOSED AGING MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES OF IRRADIATED CONCRETE AND STEEL REACTOR VESSEL SUPPORTS

Dear Mr. Coffey:

By letter dated November 16, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Package Accession No. ML20329A292), NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra) submitted an application for subsequent renewal of Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-24 and DPR-27 for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Point Beach),

respectively, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC, or the staff).

On August 5, 2021, the NRC staff held a public meeting with NextEra to discuss the contents of the Point Beach Subsequent License Renewal Application. The staff began with the public meeting logistics including the agenda. The staff and applicant then discussed the applicants July 8, 2021, response (ADAMS No. ML21189A173) to the staffs June 10, 2021, request for additional information (ADAMS No. ML21161A119), as related to the proposed aging management activities for irradiated concrete and steel reactor vessel supports. The discussion questions, which were provided to the applicant (ADAMS No. ML21285A121), addressed areas such as the uncertainty associated with the neutron fluence and gamma doses; impacts on the primary shield wall concrete and steel liner; and potential impacts on structural steel as related to the support of the reactor vessel.
