SUMMARY

OF NOVEMBER 14, 2017, PUBLIC TELECONFERENCE WITH NEXTERA ENERGY POINT BEACH, LLC, TO DISCUSS CONTAINMENT DOME TRUSS LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST FOR POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 (CAC NOS. MF9532 AND MF9533; EPID L-2017-LLA-0209)

On November 14, 2017, a Category 1 public teleconference was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra or licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland.

By letter dated March 31, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML17090A511 ), the licensee submitted a license amendment request (LAR) for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2. The proposed LAR would document a risk-informed resolution strategy to resolve low risk, legacy design code nonconformances associated with construction trusses in the containment building.

On October 30, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17303A542), the NRC staff submitted a draft request for additional information (RAI) related to the above submittal. The purpose of this public teleconference was for the NRC staff to discuss the draft RAls in further detail in order to gain a better understanding of the methodology adopted in the subject submittal, prior to conducting a site audit on November 29 and 30, 2017, at the NextEra Headquarters in Jupiter, Florida. The NRC staff asked numerous questions regarding the unique approach, and the licensee provided further insight into the adopted methodology.

The meeting notice and agenda, dated November 2, 2017, are available in ADAMS as Accession No. ML17311A084. A list of the meeting attendees is enclosed. There were no members of the public in attendance via bridgeline and public meeting feedback forms were not requested by anyone.
