Dear Mr. Coffey:
By letter dated November 16, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Package Accession No. ML20329A292), NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra) submitted an application for subsequent renewal of Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. DPR-24 and DPR-27 for Point Beach Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Point Beach),
respectively, to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
On June 3, 2021, the NRC staff held a public meeting with NextEra to discuss the content of the Point Beach Subsequent License Renewal Application. The staff began with the public meeting logistics including the agenda. The staff then presented a series of discussion questions (ADAMS Accession No. ML21148A116) related to NextEras proposed aging management activities for irradiated concrete and steel reactor vessel supports. The questions were based on draft requests for information (RAIs) and requests for confirmation (RCIs) and included areas such as the uncertainty associated with the neutron fluence and gamma doses; impacts on the primary shield wall concrete and steel liner; and potential impacts on structural steel; as related to the support of the reactor vessel.
The discussion provided NextEra and opportunity to ask clarifying questions of the staff and to provide additional information to the staff, which informed the draft questions provided to the applicant as draft RAIs/RCIs on June 10, 2021 (ADAMS Accession No. ML21161A119).
There were several questions made by members of the public to the NRC staff during the public question and answer portion of the meeting.
