SUMMARY

OF JULY 28, 2015, PUBLIC MEETING WITH NEXTERA ENERGY POINT BEACH, LLC, TO DISCUSS PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE LICENSING BASIS FOR THE TURBINE-DRIVEN AUXILIARY FEEDWATER PUMPS AT THE POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MF6428 AND MF6429)

On July 28, 2015, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC (NextEra, the licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland.

The purpose of this meeting was for NextEra to discuss with the NRC staff a proposed license amendment request to cross-tie the turbine-driven auxiliary feedwater (TDAFW) pumps between Units 1 and 2 at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant. Prior to the meeting, the licensee submitted slides that would outline their presentation. The slides are available on the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML15203A507, and were also provided with the meeting notice.

The meeting notice and agenda, dated July 8, 2015, are available at ADAMS Accession No. ML15190A280. A list of the meeting attendees is enclosed.

During the meeting, the licensee discussed each of the slides in its presentation. The NRC staff asked numerous clarification questions during the presentation. After the presentation, NextEra staff indicated that the TDAFW cross-tie, if approved by the NRC, would be used with the current licensing basis. The ability to cross-tie would also provide an added risk benefit and improve redundancy in decay heat removal.

No regulatory decisions or commitments were made during the meeting. There were no members of the public in attendance, physically or via the bridgeline. The NRC staff received no meeting feedback forms.
