1. Consumers Power Company letter from J W Cook to H R Denton, United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Serial 32744, dated July 1, 1986.
2. Isham, Lincoln and Beale letter to Atomic Safety and Licensing Board dated July 11, 1986.

In the reference letters, Consumers Power Company withdrew the request for a construction permit extension, and requested that the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB) discontinue operating license hearings.

To confirm your July 25, 1986 telephone conversation with R H Wieland of Consumers Power Company, the following activities related to the remedial soils work are being modified pending final disposition of the issues described in the aformentioned two letters:

1. Extensometer and deep-seated benchmark readings in the Auxiliary Building and Service Water Pump Structure will be suspended.
2. Optical building and dike settlement surveyu will continue to be performed annually on selected benchmarks for non-abandoned facilities.

3. Site subsidence monitoring will be suspended.
4. Weekly wedge tightness checks of Auxiliary Building underpinning piers will be suspended.
5. Fines monitoring of operating dewatering wells will be modified to include only flowmeter readings of pump output and periodic sampling for fines content.
6. Feedwater Isolation Valve Pit (FIVP) support rod tension monitoring will be conducted semi-annually for personnel safety reasons.
