Reference:

Generic Letter 85-02, Staff Recommended Actions Steaming from NRC Integrated Program for the Resolution of the Unresolved Safety 4,

Issues Regarding Steam Generator Tube Integrity, dated April 17, 1985.

Generic Letter 85-02 requested that applicants for an operating license furnish a description of their overall program for assuring steam generator tube integrity and for steam generator tube rupture mitigation. The

' description should be sufficiently detailed to allow the staff to compare these actions with the staff recommended actions attached to the generic letter. Additional information is requested on supplemental tube sample inspections.

The Midland steam generators have not been subject to vetting since delivery to the plant site, thus the concerns in the letter for tube bundle exposure to air are not germane. The preservice inspection of the steam generators was completed prior. to the Project shutdown in July 1984 but did not include the specific visual inspection requirements contained in the Generic Letter.

The current status of the steam generators is that they are in long-term dry layup.
