  • e, e s ENCLOSURE PLANT YOGTLE - UNIT 1 NRC DOCKET 50-424 OPERATING LICENSE NPF-68 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION SPECIAL REPORT 88-005 A. Requirement for Report This report is required in accordance with the Plant Vogtle - Unit 1 Technical Specifications Section 4.8.1.1.3. This section of the Technical Specificctions requires that all diesel generator failures, valid or non-valid, shall be reported to the Comission in a Special Report pursuant to Technical Specification 6.8.2.

B. Description of Invalid Failure for Train B Diesel Generator On September 23, 1988, Start Number 1-88-0076, Diesel Generator Train B, was being run to prove operability following routine maintenance. A High Lube Oil Temperature Trip occurred; although lube oil temperature was normal at the time. A review determined that the lube oil and lube oil cooling subsystems should not have been affected by the recently completed maintenance nor could any other reason for the trip be found. The diesel was started again in an attempt to verify the high lube oil temperature. l However, no high lube oil temperature was experienced. A successful test  !

was completed and the diesel was returred to service. Further l investigation is in progress.

l C. Sumary This non-valid failure per Reg. Guide 1.108, Section C.2.E.2. did not affect the diesel's energency response capability.

Since there are no valid failures in the past 20 valid tests, the Train B f Diesel Generator is still on a once per 31 day test frequency as defined by Technical Specification Table 4.8-1, 0095e
