i V0GTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT - UNIT 2 i TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION SPECIAL REPORT 2-92-5 i A_81A MAXIMUM NORMAL TEMPERATURE EXCEEDED A. REQUIREMENT FOR REPORT This report is written in accordance with the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant Technical Specifications- (TS), section 347.10a, which requires that a Special Report be submitted to the Commission whenever the maximum normal temperature of an area has been exceeded for more than 8 hours9.259259e-5 days
0.00222 hours
1.322751e-5 weeks
3.044e-6 months
.

B. DESCRIPTION OF EVENT On three occasions during the period of July 9-12, 1992, the temperature in room 122 of the equipment building exceeded the maximum normal temperature of 115 degrees i for more than 8 hours9.259259e-5 days
0.00222 hours
1.322751e-5 weeks
3.044e-6 months
. The periods of time were: 13 hours1.50463e-4 days
0.00361 hours
2.149471e-5 weeks
4.9465e-6 months
, 12 hours1.388889e-4 days
0.00333 hours
1.984127e-5 weeks
4.566e-6 months
and 21 minutes, and 14 hours1.62037e-4 days
0.00389 hours
2.314815e-5 weeks
5.327e-6 months
. The maximum room temperature recorded during any of these periods was 123.5 degrees F, which is less than the maximum abnormal temperature of 126 degrees F.

C. ENGINEERING EVALUATION The effects of a loss of HVAC on equipment operability and qualified life had recently been evaluated for the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant. This evaluation showed that the equipment in this room will remain operable for at least- 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
, at temperatures up to 150 degrees F, withnut loss of function or significant effect on the service life. Therefore, it has been concluded that these perioJs of operatisn between 115 degrees and 123.5 degrees had no effect on continued operability of the equipment in room 122.
