i A Requirement for Report [

Yhis report is reqvtred in accordance with Plant Vogtle Unit 1 Technical Specifications Section 4.8.1.1.3. This section of the Technical Specifications requires that all diesel generator failures, valid or non-valid, be reported to the Coresission in a Special Report pursuant to Technical Specification 6.8.2.

B. Description of Invalid Failure for Train A Diesel Generator On October 13, 1988, a troubleshonting run (Start Number 1-88-0008) of Diesel Generator Train A was in p ogress to set the lubc oil regulating valves, make final inspectiens, and perform functional testing following maintenance. The operator noticed that the R/AR meter was reading offscale high. The engine was unloaded and stopped. The cause of the high meter reading was not immediately known. However, since all other engine operating parameters were within tolerance Start Number 1-88-0089 was conducted successfully and proved o>erability. An investigation later showed that rewiring conducted during tte mairtenance led to the meter mal function. The improper wiring was corrected.

C. Summary This non-valid failure p(r Reg. Guide 1.108, Section C.2.E.7, did not affect the diesels emergency response capability.

l Since there are no valid failures in the past 20 valid tests, the Train A l Diesel Generator is still on a once per 31 day test frequency as defined by Techrical Specification Table 4.8.1. '
