4 LEAKAGE REDUCTION PROGRAM REPORT FOR 1

CORE SPRAY SYSTEM - (E2100)

INTRODUCTION: Both the Fermi-2 Technical Specifications, paragraph 6.8.4.a.2, and the Fermi-2 FSAR, Section H.III.D.l.1, require i

that leakage from systems outside primary containment that could or would contain highly radioactive fluids, be reduced and maintained to as-low-as-practical levels.

To demonstrate the leak tight integrity of the Core Spray System, a system leakage, test is conducted once per reactor refueling 1

(apprc'.timately once every 18 months).

This report is for the initial leakage test.

3) Procedure No. 43.203.05, " Division II - Core Spray System Leakage Monitoring Test" (A copy of this procedure is on i

file at the plant).

j TEST DESCRIPTION: Each Core Spray Division was tested by two separate procedures.

The major portion of Core Spray. piping.

i was inspected by procedure 43.203.01, for Division'I, and procedure 43.203.05, for Division II.

With the Core Spray System in the test flow mode, and at rated pressure and flow, the system was inspected and all leakage measured and recorded.

The remainder of the system ( from the E21-F005A&B i

valves to containment ) was inspected using. procedure 43.000.09, Reactor Pressure Vessel System Leakage Test, with all leakage being measured and recorded.

This procedure was 1

performed twice, initially on 5-15-85 and again on~6-7-85.

Each test was conducted at normal operating pressure.

Subsequent to the initial test corrective maintenance was performed to reduce leakage further.

TEST RESULTS:

I i

DIVISION - I l

-Instrument E21-N004A leaked at the threaded fitting and E21-F005A leaked at packing giving a total system leakage rate of 38.25. drops per minute.

Maintenance performed corrective repairs to the valves to reduce system leakage to 30.25 drops

/ minute total.

LEAKAGE REDUCTION PROGRAM REPORT FOR CORE SPRAY SYSTEM - (E2100)

J l

-DIVISION - II i

No corrective maintenance was required for this system, the total system leakage rate of 13.5 drops / minute is well within the acceptable criteria.

TEST RESULTS

SUMMARY

DIVISION - I Corrective maintenance yielded a net reduction in total system' leakage of: 8 drops / minute.

As Found Leakage Leakage Reduced By As Left Leakage Maintenance Activity 38.25 drops / min.

8 drops / min.

30.25 drops / min.

DIVISION - II No corrective maintenLnce was requireci for this system, the total system leakage rate of 13.5 drops / min. is within the acceptance criteria.

i f

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA:

The general leakage criteria to be applied I

during the first fuel cycle as the basis for instituting i

corrective action in the form of corrective maintenance.shall be 80 drops / minute for each division. Per the EF-2 FSAR, this leakage criteria will be further evaluated at the end of the first refueling cycle to determine the long range leakage reduction program criteria.

This will allow experience gained during the intial fuel cycle to be factored into the long range criteria.
