Interim 10CFR50.55(e) Report; Insufficient Fillet Weld Size in Coped Area of Structural Members

Dear Sir:

On Oc tobe r 26, 1984, we reported a potential 10CFR50.55(e) item to Region I [ Reference (b)]. This item was initially identified during the Construction Appraisal Team Inspection and was subsequently addressed in our response [ Reference (c)] to said inspection. An interim report was filed

[ Reference (d)] on December 28, 1984.

We are submitting this report to appraise you of the status on the evaluation of this item. There are a total of 829 connections requiring review, of which 550 have been completed. Of the 550 evaluated, 58 have been determined not acceptable if we assume that no weld exists in the coped area of the connection. We are currently performing an inspection of these connections to determine the actual weld size in the area of the cope. Once this as-built weld information is known, we will re-evaluate the connections to determine if any corrective action is required.

We expect to complete our evaluation prior to July 2,1985, at which time we will report the results to you.
