Starostecki Subj ect : Final 10CFR50.55(e) Report; Insufficient Fillet Weld Size in Coped Area of Structural Members (CDR 84-00-17)

Dear Sir:

In Reference (b), we reported a 10CFR50.55(e) item regarding Insufficient Fillet Weld size in caged area of structural atembers.

Structural Steel I-Beams supplied by Cives Steel were coped to ensure proper assembly with installed wide flanged beams. The webs of coped beams were strengthened by fillet welding a plate to the web. These fillet welds were undersized in certain areas. The undersized welds were due to physical limitations of the plate size and matching coped web size, as well as welding technique.

We have completed the following corrective actions required for this item:

A) Identified similar coped joints in all safety-related buildings to determine the requirements for strengthening the beam web.

This letter is the final report of this item.

Very truly ours, S
