Interin 10CFR50.55(e) Report: Pressure Transmitters (CDR 86-00-02)

Dear Sir:

On March 7, 1986 we reported a 10CFR50.55(e) item to Region I (Reference (b)).

The following information is provided under the reporting requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

Description of Deficiency During testing the Veritrak 76PH2 Pressure Transitters, calibration shifts due to ambient temperatures changes in excess of the 1% per 100 F specified maximum were recorded.

Analysis of Safety Implication

, These transmitters provide input to the reactor trip and safety injection actuation logic. The trip cet points for the above are based on the maximum assu.ned error plus a margin. The excessive ambient temperature calibration shifts yauld create a condition that would violate allowable technical specification limits.

Status of Investigation The transmitters in question have been returned to Westinghouse so that they may, (1) analyze the cause and (2) repair the transmitters.
