J. DeVincentis to R. W. Starostecki Subj ect : Final 10CFR50.55(e) Report: Improper Cable Lug Connections in 25 kVA Inverter (CDR 86-00-04)

Dear Sir:

In Reference (b), we reported a 10CFR50.55(e) deficiency regarding potential malfunction in the 25 kVA inverters manufactured by Elgar Corporation due to improper stacking of cable lugs. This deficiency involved the incorrect electrical connection made via nuts and studs instead of direct connection of the cable lug to the bus for ac and de input power supply. The potential effect would be abnormal heating at the connections due to high resistance. This could lead to a fault or circuit failure that would render the equipment inoperable.

The corrective action, as specified in Reference (b), determination and proper retermination of the cable lug for ac and de power supply connections in the affected 25 kVA inverters has been completed for Unit 1. As such, this is our final report.
