[External_Sender] Comments RE: Docket ID NRC-2018-0101 (License Renewal for FPL's Turkey Point)

Dear NRC Staff,

As a resident of South Florida who spent my childhood living within a 10-mile radius of Turkey Point, it is my view that the NRC should reject FPL's application for an unprecedented extension of time to operate the existing nuclear reactors.

A nuclear plant should never have been placed between two national parks (Biscayne and Everglades), and the time has come to shut down these reactors, especially since the plant is already contaminating nearby resources such as Biscayne Bay and threatening our regions drinking water.

I am also concerned about the continuing on-site storage of spent fuel rods in pools that require continuous electricity to keep from overheating. According to the Christian Science Monitor, article dated 5/25/11,* the amount stored at Turkey Point is 2.5 times more radioactive than what was at Fukushima. Given Turkey Point's location, it is vulnerable to power shutdowns from hurricanes, which could result in a meltdown of the pools of spent fuel rods.

The NRC needs to be aware that Turkey Point and the area around it has already experienced the negative effects of sea level rise and storm surges. The NRC needs to study a range of sea level rise projections and consider those impacts on the plant, the cooling canal system, and the surrounding community, including for emergency evacuation procedures and planning.

Thank you.
