YOGTLE ELCCTRIC GCNCRAllNG PLANT - UNil 1 FSAR SPECIAL REPORT l LQQ1LSlLQUKUDILS1HELU t101'LMDillH A. REQUIREMENT TOR REPOR1 .

1his report is required in accordance with the Vogtle [lectric Generating Plant final Safety Analysis Report, section 16.3, requirement 3. This section requires a special report to be submitted when one or more channels i of the loose part detection system are inoperable for more than 30 days while in Modes 1 or 2.

D. DESCRIPTION OF LOOSE PART DE1ECT10N SYST[M INOP[RADill1Y .

On February 19, 1992, rout...e testing conducted on the loose part detection

system revealed that a microchip had failed on a circuit carv, and as a i result, both channels in the upper reactor vessel region were inoperable.

- Other regions of the detection system were not affec ed by this condition and remain operable. A replacement microchip, although available, is a revised version of the original and reouires revised documentation from the vendor to assist in installation. It is expected that this installation will-be completed and the inoperable channels restored to service by April 15, 1992.
