inourresponseare,infact,installed intheDonaldC.CookNuclearPlantandarethesameastheitemsforwhichqualification dataexists,isbasedonacomprehensive equipment identification andcontrolprogramthatwasandisusedthroughout theengineering, design,procurement, installation andcheckoutoftheplant.Thisprogramprovidesfortheassignment ofauniqueidentification number(plantequipment number)toeachitemduringthedesignphase.Thisidentification isshownondesigndrawings, procurement documents, theitemsthemselves whenshippedfromthevendor,receiptinspection documents, materialissuerecords,installation inspection recordsandcheckoutandtestrecords.gualification documentation ischeckedtoverifythatthequalifi-cationdoesmeetrequirements setforthintheengineering specifications fortheitem,andthatthequalification isapplicable totheitemfurnished.
Verification thattheitemcalledoutindesigndrawingswas,infact.installed isobtainedbytwoindependent setsofinspections.
ThefirstarethegCinspections conducted duringtheinstallation phasetoverifyconformance todesigndocuments.
Thesecondaretheinspections conducted priortoandduringthecheckoutandtestphaseagaintoverifyconformance todesigndocuments andequipment operability.

Ineachcase,nonon-conformances werefound.RESPONSETOITEMNO.3Thelimitswitcheswhichprovidepositionindication oftheair-operatedsafety-related valvesinsidecontainment arenotneededtoactivateanyEngineered SafetyFeaturesorforlong-term post-accident nonitoring.
Forthisreason,theselimitswitchesarenotconsidered partofthesafeguards systemsandhavenotbeensubjected toenviron-mentaltesting.Thelimitswitchesfortheair-operated containment isolation valvesinsidethecontainment areNamcoControlsModelsD2400andSL4.Neitherofthesemodelswasidentified inIEBulletins 78-04or79-01.ThePlantequipment numbersforthesevalvesareVCR-ll,21,101,102,103,104,105,106and107.Limitswitchesforsafety-related motor-operated valvesinsidethecontainment arepartofthevalveoperators andarequalified underthesametestreportsasthemotorsandvalveoperators themselves
.Noseparatemodelorequipment numbersareassignedtotheselimitswitches.
