Subject:

IDVP-DCP Meetings for Exchange of Background Information Gent'lemen:

IDVP procedures presently state that the NRC Staff and the Designated Other Parties (00P) are not required to be notified for meetings involv-ing only Background Information, but must be notified for meetings held "for the purpose of discussing substantive information, presenting or discussing conclusions, or honoring requests by 00P for clarification."

The present status of the IDVP is that we have essentially completed the initial sample verification and additional verification / sample efforts, and almost all our work now involves verification of DCP efforts. In order to expedite the transfer of information to the NRC Staff and the DOP, we now propose a change to the existing procedure with respect to meetings held for the purpose of exchanging " Background Information."

The DCP concurs with this proposal.

The change in procedure is that the NRC Staff and the 00P may now attend meetings called for the purpose of discussing technical " Background Information." When five days or more are available for notice we will follow the existing notice procedure. However, in most cases five days are not available. Therefore, an answering service will be made available, with information updated at least daily, describing meetings y&B7 1
