l-This sounds like a real concern. What would happen if there was a l
major oil spill that disables all cooling water to a plant such l
as SONGS or Diablo Canyon? How long could they safely operate with a loss of all cooling water. What would be available for long term cooling?

Dear Paul,
Have you heard or have more info about the disaster on west coast of Japan vis a vis the oil slick being sucked into the Nuclear Power Plant?
Japan-Russia Relations have never been good-and this disaster will not do that any good.
l What would happen if oil got sucked into the system?
l Sounds very very bad, if not down right catastrophic eh?
l Probably not considered in FSAR...
Here on the west coast we could concievably have that kind of j
disaster or even another Santa Barbara Channel Oil Platform l
blowout...right into Diablo Canyon's intakes...
l A seismic event could also precipitate such a disaster.
j l
After Northridge Quake, oil production in some wells soared 4x!
I and gas production was spectacular...just the boost that could i
cause an offshore blowout in the fragile oil resevoirs...
I don't think any of these scenarios have ever been considered or planned for and perhaps they should be immediately considered by NRC.
