2.0 IETHODS AND PROCEDURES

2.1 Tnread Peening - ,
Use a ball peen ha.:1er to strike and derom the threa rpen-dicular to the length of the fastener. A clinimum of two (
y 1 full threads should be deromed and this peening should be -
located in at least two places approxi=ately 180 de6rees-apart. .

2.2 Edge Peening -
g I Use a ball peen hammer to strike and derom the end or edge
! of a fastener. A minimum of one (1) complete th:ead should be I defomed,in at least two places around the edge of the fastener, approximately 180 degrees apart.
l 2.3 Center Punching -

Use a center punch and a hammer to strike and de f'.;rm threads f perpendicular to length of the fastener.
- A minista of two (2) j' full threads.should be defomed and this center punching should be located in at least two places 180 degrees apart..
2.4 Tack Welding - .

Tack weld the thread in at least two (2) places approxir.ately
- 180 degrees apart. This tack weld should derom a minimum of * '

(Unexposed Thread) , ,
Before tack welding the fastener cay be edge peened (2.2) and then tack welded as described below.* This tackweld should defomi at least one thread and'not be placed at the peened location.

REWORK REPAIR USE AS IS xx SCRAP RETURN TO VENDOR The eye rods on sway strut assemblies which contain the spherical bearing are not required by specification or ASME Section III to be "not removable" from the sway strut body. The paragraph of MS-46A that is indicated to be violated requires that provisions for upsetting the threads in the field shall be made where neither lock nuts or double nuts cannot be provided.
Since a lock nut is provided, upsetting of threads is not required. Sight holes in strut bodies are not a code or specification requirement.

- 3.2 Layout and trill a 1/4"O hole through the' pipe wall -
approximately one inch from the coupling nut weld. Do j not drill through bo.th walls of the pipe. - i 1 I - I 3.3 Remove as much. of the drill shavings from inside of the y/ pipe as is practicable. ,, h
