2000s Reply to: P. O. Box 25083 Denver, Colorado 80225 January 7, 1980 Mr. Daniel R. Muller Acting Director, Division of Site Safety and Environmental Analysis Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Nuclear Regulatory Co:mnission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Muller:

By letter of August 16, 1979, you informed the Council that your office would soon be preparing a preliminary case report and requesting the Council's comments on an electrical transmission line to be constructed as part of the River Bend Nuclear Station in Louisiana. As proposed the transmission line will cross and adversely affect the Port Hudson Battlefield, an historic site that has been designated a National Historic Landmark. A copy of your letter is enclosed.

We have not received any further information from your office concerning this matter. We would appreciate it if you would look into this project and provide us with a status report as soon as possible. If we can be of assistance, please call Michael C. Quinn at (303) 234-4946, an FTS number.

Sincerely, g6M Louis . Wall IW Chief, Western Division of Project Review Enclosure l

ear Mr. 'aali:

Thank you for your letter of April 16, 1979 pointing out salient points of your regulations pertaining to the protection of cultural properties such as Port Hudson Battlefield in Louisiana from i pacts associated with con-struction of a transmission line.

'le are initiating steps outlined in 36 CFR 500 which will lead to preparation and filing of a Preliminary Case Report for the Fort Hudson Sattlefield his-toric area. Gulf States Utilities, the caner of the River Send Nuclear Staticn, has been advised not to proceed with construction of the transmissicn line within the Battlefield area, pending resolution of this issue.

We have been in touch with Mr. Michael C. Quinn of your office and found his advice very helpful. We are looking forward to continued assistance and guidance from your office towards prompt resolution of this matter.

Sincerely, O

raniel R. .'uilar, Actir.g Director l Divisicn of Site Safety and Er.viccnmental Aralysis Office of "uclear Reactor Regulation l
