Dear Mr. Huller:
By letter of Novenber 11, 1974, (copy enclosed) the Council inforced what was then the U.S. Atonic Energy Conmission that the Final Environ-cantal Statecent for the River Bend Nucient Power Station Unita 1 and 2, Louisiana, vaa inadequate because it did not de-onstrate co=pliance with, nor an awareness of, AEC's responsibilities pursuant to Executive Order 11593, " Protection and Enhancenent of the Cultural Environment" issued Ety 13, 1971. To date, however, the Council has received nothing further on this natter fron either AEC or its succcanor, the Nucicar Regulatory Comission.
Recently we have been advised by staff to the Louisiana State Eistoric Preservatica Officer that the project is proceeding and nay affect significant cultural resources that may be eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
Therefore, on the basin of this inforcation, the Council requests that you investigate this natter to deterrine whether the nature of the effect requires the NIG: to obtain the coerents of the Council in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C 470f, as amended, 90 Stat. 1320) and/or Executive Order 11593, "Protec-tion and Enhancerent of the Cultural Environc,ent." Steps to deternine this responsibility are not forth in Section 800.4 of the Council's
" Procedures for the Protection of Historic nnd Cultural Properties" (36 C.F.R. Part 800). A copy of the Council's procedures is enclosed for your convenience.
The Council requesto that you report the results of your investigation to this office at the earliest opportunity.
