This acknowledges your correspondence of Deceber 16, 1981, requesting information on whether any Endangered, Threatened, or proposed species may be present in the area of the Gulf States Utilities Cmpany, River Bend Station Units 1 and 2 or associated transmission corridors in West Feliciana Parish, Iouisiana.

We forwarded the information you provided for review to our Jackson Area Office, 200 East Pascagoula Street, Suite 300, Jackson, Mississippi 39201, telephone ETS 490-4900, comercial 601/960-4900. Upon empletion of this review, a list of species that my be present in the area of the proposed action will be provided. If a biological assessment is required, we will advise you of the information it should contain in order to facilitate your collection of data.

In ar. effort to streamline the consultation process under Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, the Fish and Wildlife Service has mde a minor change in consultation procedures. Your agency should request trm the Area Office-not fran the Regional Office in Atlanta-a list of 'Ihreatened or Endangered species that my occur in your project areas.

Under formr procedures, the request for a list of species was miled to the Atlanta Office and forwarded to the Area Office. With this new arrangment the request can be sent directly to the Area Office which will respond directly to the agency. '1hi will save time as well as reduce paperwork in the consulta-tion process.
