Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369, -370

Dear Mr. Denton:

By letter dated January 10, 1986, Duke proposed a Technical Specification revision regarding the number of reactor coolant pumps required to be operating when in Mode 3. On page 3/4 4-2, Specification 4.4.1.2.3 was proposed to be revised to read "At least two reactor coolant loops ..."

(emphasis added). By letter dated April 28, 1986, NRC issued amendment numbers 56, 37 to Facility Operating Licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 respectively. This amendment did not reflect the above noted proposed change. Thus, the existing surveillance requirement is inconsistent with the existing limiting condition for operation. A suitably revised page is attached.

The technical information and significant hazards consideration provided previously remain valid. McGuire will administrative 1y implement this l proposed change pending issuance of a license amendment reflecting the '

change.

This request is considered to be a supplement to the request dated January 10, 1986. As such, no additional license fees are provided.

s Very truly yours, s
