McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-369 and 50-370 Proposed Technical Specification (TS) Amendment TS 5.5 - Meteorological Tower Location Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.90, please find attached proposed license amendment to Appendix A (Technical Specifications) of Facility Operating Licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 for'McGuire Nuclear Station.

The proposed change is for showing the location of a new meteorological tower to be installed at McGuire Nuclear Station.

Figure 5.1-1 of TS 5.5 shows the meteorological tower location.

.The location of the existing tower will be used for site construction. The new tower location meets the requirements of Regulatory Guide 1.23 (Safety Guide 23), Revision 0, 1972, Regulatory Position C.2, " Siting of Meteorological Instruments."

Attachment I.A contains the marked TS pages indicating the proposed changes. Attachment I.B contains the marked Figure 5.1- t }

1 for Improved Standardized Technical Specifications (ITS).

Attachment II contains the new TS pages. Attachment III contains the Description of Proposed Changes and Technical Justification.

Attachment IV contains the No Significant Hazards Considerations.

Attachment V contains the Environmental Impact Assessment.

In the 5/27/97 McGuire ITS submittal, TS 5.5 and Figure 5.1-1 were proposed to be relocated to the UFSAR. Only marked Figure 5.1-1 in that submittal is affected by this submittal. The proposed change requires changes to the McGuire UFSAR. The UFSAR changes will be submitted via 10 CFR 50.71(e) requirements.

The proposed change has been reviewed and approved by the Plant Operations Review Committee and the Nuclear Safety Review Board.

Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.91, a copy of this proposed license 1 amendment is being forwarded to the appropriate North Carolina l State Officials.
