QI-071 Rev. 1
.o 1.0 PURPOSE d
To provide methods to be used and accept / reject criteria to be applied when performing reinspection of lighting cable.
2.0 APPLICABILITY This procedure applies to reinspection of samples selected from the lighting cable population at Comanche Peak Units 1, 2 and areas common to both units. The population is described in Population Description for Lighting Cable.
3.0 REFERENCES
3.1 Description Memorandum QA/QC-RT-1188, delineating documentation used in development of this instruction including specific sources for attributes and exclusions.
3.2 CPP-009, " Performance of Reinspections and Documentation Reviews."
4.0 GENERAL O
Reinspections are performed and documented in accordance with established project procedures and instructions. This instruction establishes the attributes, and accept / reject criteria for reinspections of lighting cables. Reference 3.2 addresses the method to perform reinspections, document and process the results.
5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 verify Cable size / Type Branch circuit wiring shall be 1/C No. 12 AWG, 600V, solid copper wire or as noted on the drawings.
Fixture wiring shall be 1/C No. 12 AWG, 600V, stranded copper wire or as noted on the drawings.
Neutral conductors shall be 1/C of the same size and type as the phase conductors.
Note: Where cable size or type cannot be determined by printing on the cable jacket, a sample of the wire type shall be obtained and visually compared with the field installed cable.

5.0 PROCEDURE (Cont'd)
V 5.2 Verify Color Codina l
l Cable shall be color-coded per the latest drawings and l
installed in conduit of like color code. The cable jacket shall be colored orange for Train "A" and green for Train "B".
Cables may be field color coded by applying colored tape bands around the cable.
In that case, the tape bands are the j
determining factor in deciding the color code of the cable.
5.3 Destinations Verify that the correct lighting fixtures and/or receptacles are energized by the designated lighting panel and branch circuit breaker in accordance with the drawings.
5.4 Damage Verify that the observable field installed conductors at boxes l
and panels are free from cuts and slices in the conductor insulation and that wire joint insulation is not damaged.
5.5 Verify Correct Wire Joint The correct wire joint shall be utilized for the sizes and number of conductors terminated as follows (see Table 1):
Notes: 1.
Cable splices in lighting branch circuits shall only be made in fixtures or junction boxes and shall be made with solderless mechanical compression type connectors having separate insulating sleeves, unless otherwise noted on drawings.
2.
Correct wire joint type may be verified by visual comparison with a sample wire joint of known type.

/"N 5.0 PROCEDURE (Cont'd) 5.6 Verify Bare Conductor Length Exposed conductors beyond the termination point at branch circuit breakers shall not exceed 1/4 inch.
The exposed conductor at a termination or splice shall not extend beyond the wire joint insulation sleeve.
5.7 Crimp Centered Verify that the crimp of a wire joint is not on the edge of the wire barrel.
5.8 Verify Terminals For termination of lighting circuits that are to be landed under a screw, crimp type terminals may be used.
Non-insulated terminals shall be used on solid wire and shall l
be inspected to the criteria in Attachment 6.2.
Pre-insulated terminals shall be used on stranded wire and shall be inspected to the criteria in Attachment 6.3.
()
5.9 Verify Maximum Number of Conductors in Box Utilize Table 2 to identify the maximum number of conductors permitted in each junction box. For box sizes or cable combinations not shown in Table 2, compute the maximum number of conductors per box size utilizing the information below.
Determine box size by direct measurement when the cubic inch capacity is not marked on the box by the manufacturer.
SIZE OF CONDUCTOR FREE SPACE WITHIN BOX FOR EACH CONDUCTOR No. 14 2.0 Cubic inches No. 12 2.25 Cubic inches No. 10 2.5 Cubic inches No.
8 3.0 Cubic inches No.
6 5.0 Cubic inches Also, the maximum number and size of conductors listed on Table 2 shall not be exceeded.

4 QI-071 R;v. 1 5.0 PROCEDURE (Cont'd)
)
Notes:
1.
A conductor running through the box shall be counted as one conductor, and each conductor originating outside of the box and spliced or terminated inside the box is counted as one conductor.
2.
A deduction of one conductor from the maximum allowable shall be made for one or more grounding conductors entering the box.
