Mr. James. P. O'Reilly Special Report Page Two November 9, 1983 EVENT DESCRIPTION AND PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES On. October 15, 1983, with the Plant in Mode 1, Smoke Detectors located in the Reactor Building, Zone 000, were declared inoperable due to intermittent trouble alarms. The subject detectors are

. identified in Table 3.3-11 of Technical Specification 3.3.3.7, " Fire Detection Instrumentation."

There were no adverse consequences due to this event. The Licensee

-complied with Action Statement (a) of Technical Specificatica 3.3.3.7.

CAUSE AND CORRECTIVE ACTION The cause of this event is unknown at this time. Immediate corrective action taken was to initiate the monitoring of the containment air temperature at least once per hour at the locations listed in Technical Specification 4.6.1.5, " Air. Temperature."

Investigation into the cause of this event and corrective action to restore the system to an operable status are scheduled for the upcoming outage.
