Dear Dr. Grace:
This Special Report is being submitted pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.3.4, "Meteorological Instrumentation."
On August 30, 1988, at approximately 2030 hours0.0235 days <br />0.564 hours <br />0.00336 weeks <br />7.72415e-4 months <br />, the meteorological tower took a direct lightning strike resulting in a complete loss of all instruments on the tower and three dual pen recorders located in the Control Room.
Due to the extent of damage, the depletion of onsite spares, and having to return scme components to the manufacturer, the seven day limit as specified in the Technical Specification Action Statement was not met. As of this date, all repairs have been completed with the exception of the 61 meter wind direction and one recorder which are awaiting receipt of components from the manufacturqr.
It is anticipated that all repairs will be cempleted and the unit restored to an operable status by Sert 2mber 30,1988.
