VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SPECIAL REPORT (SPR 950001)

South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) is submitting this special report pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 6.9.2 as required by Station Administrative Procedure (SAP) 131 A, " Fire Service Equipment / System Operability Requirements".

On June 27,1995, a portion of the fire service computer system was placed in by-pass to isolate a malfunction. Placing this portion of tha computer in by-pass rendered one zone of fire detection instrumentation within the intermediate Building inoperable.

As required, within one hour after placing the computerin by-pass an nourly fire watch patrol began inspection of the affected zone.

The malfunction was an intermittent problem which required extensive trouble I shooting activities to isolate the prob lem and effect repairs. The effected zone of fire detection instrumentation was inoperable for greater than fourteen (14) days -

requiring this special report. Repairs to the fire computer system were complete and the system returned to service on July 13,1995.
