Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Operating License No.

Special Report (SPR 90-10)

Dear Mr. Ebneter:

This special report is being submitted by South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) pursuant to the requirements of the Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station (VCSNS)

Station Administrative Procedure (SAP)

131A,

" Fire Service Equipment / System Operability Requirements."

At 1030 hours0.0119 days
0.286 hours
0.0017 weeks
3.91915e-4 months
July 2,1990, fire door DRIB /108 was found open as a result of a baseplate becoming wedged underneath the door' preventing closure without assistance.

3 Although the fire door remained functional as a fire barrier, the licensee declared the door inoperable because of the potential. of the door remaining

)

open if it was opened wide enough to allow the baseplate to wedge beneath the door. As compensatory action, the fire door was placed on the firewatch log and verified closed hourly.

The installation of a door stop to prevent wedging of the door open was a

completed at 1545 hours0.0179 days
0.429 hours
0.00255 weeks
5.878725e-4 months
, July 9, 1990. (Total time inoperable 7 days 5 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
15 minutes thus exceeding 7 day limit allowed by procedure ).

The licensee plans no corrective action as a result of this event other than routine f*re patrols throughout-the plant.

Should you have any questions, please call at your convenience.

Very truly yours, h

~
