Dear Mr. Ebneter:

This Special Report'is being submitted in accordance with Technical Specifications Section 3.7.10, " Fire Rated Assemblies." On March 10, 1989, Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station was shutdown to facilitate Steam Generator associated work. In support of this work, the fire barriers identified below were. inoperable for greater than seven (7) days.. The' operability checks of fire detectors and establishment of fire watch patrols for the inoperable fire barriers were performed in compliance with Action Statement (a) of the' above reference Technical Specification.

Fire Doors RB 303 and PA 301 were opened March 11 and March 12, 1989, respectively, to facilitate personnel. access to the Reactor Building. Both L fire doors were closed and declared operable on March 27, 1989.

In addition to the above referenced Fire Doors, Reactor Building penetration nozzle 602 was opened March 14,.1989 to support entry of " sludge-lancing" hoses for steam generator cleaning. This activity was completed, the hoses removed, and the penetration nozzle resealed and declared operable March 23, 1989.
