Dear Mr. Ebneter:
This Special Report is submitted pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.3.4
" Meteorological Instrumentation.".This instrumentation was declared inoperable on May 16, 1989.to allow for system upgrades designed to enhance reliability.
It is anticipated that these'_.
modifications will be completed and the system returned to an operable status no later than' June 9, 1989.
This system modification includes upgrades to the grounding network; replacement of all sensors, transmitters and processors; Land addition of-surge protection to the signal and control cables. 'These enhancements'were initiated following several events where lightning damage to the system resulted in equipment inoperability.
