VIRGIL C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION DOCKET NO. 50/395 OPERATING LICENSE NO. NPF-12 SPECIAL REPORT (SPR 960002)

South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G)is submitting this report pursuant to the requirements of Technical Specification 3.3.3.10.a. The Digital Metal Impact Monitor System (DMIMS) has one channel (Steam Generator 'B') which has been inoperable in excess of 30 days, requiring a 10 day report.

On March 5,1996, the Loose Parts Monitoring Panel, XPN6042, was declared inoperable. The DMiMS is currently being replaced to enhance its reliability. The operability of this system will be re-established prior to the end of Refueling Outage 9, which is scheduled to start on April 15,1996.
