Dr. J. Nelson Grace SPR 87-007 July 13, 1987 ENCLOSURE 1 EVENT DESCRIPTION On June 24, 1987, RMA-14, the Noble Gas Effluent Monitor on the Reactor Building Purge Supply and Exhaust System, was declared inoperable due to the receipt of spurious alarms with no detectable radiation present.

ACTION TAKEN Technical Specifications Section 3.3.3.1, Table 3.3-6, Action Statement 30, Item 1 requires that with the number of operable channels less than the minimum number required, either restore the inoperable channel to operable status within 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
or initiate a preplanned alternate method of monitoring.

On June 27, 1987, the inoperable channel was not yet returned to service so the preplanned alternate method of monitoring was initiated. The cause of the'inoperability was determined to be a failed wire on the main power circuit board.

The wire was repaired and the monitor was returned to service on July 6, 1987.
