Docket Nos. 50-361 and 50-362 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Units 2 and 3 As requested, this letter provides our response for San Onofre Units 2 and 3 to IE Bulletin No. 83-01: Failure of Reactor Trip Breakers
. (Westinghouse DB-50) to Open on Automatic Trip signal.
Westinghouse Model No. DB-50 reactor trip circuit breakers are not installed at San Onofre Units 2 and 3. General Electric Model No. AK-2-25 reactor trip circuit breakers are used which are configured such that either the automatic or manual trip signal will actuate both the undervoltage and shunt relays. Thus, diversity and redundancy are provided within each AK-2-25 circuit breaker. In addition, preventative maintenance is performed in accordance with Item 3 of IE Bulletin 79-09: Failures of GE Type AK-2 Circuit Breakers in Safety Related Systems, to assure breaker design performance. The startup preventative maintenance program was reviewed and accepted by the NRC as documented in NRC Inspection Report No. 50-361/81-07,and the station preventative maintenance program has been reviewed and revised to be 8303100346 830308 PDR ADOCK 05000361 G PDR
9 Mr. R. H. Engelken March 8, 1983 identical to the startup program in the areas identified in Item 3 of IE Bulletin 79-09. Therefore, San Onofre Units 2 and 3 are not affected by IE Bulletin 83-01.
