L. E. Kokajko (NRC) to Harold B. Ray'(SCE) letter dated November 17, 1989-This. letter provides notification of completion of installation of backup q
nitrogen system-isolation check valves and test connections at San Onofre.
Unit-3.
Reference 1 requested Licensees to perform a design and operations l
verification of their instrument air systems. Southern California Edison (SCE) conducted this review and provided our report to'the.NRC by Reference 2.-
In that report, SCE noted that isolation valves and test connections must be
- added to the safety-related nitrogen backup system for the atmospheric dump-valves (ADVs). This modification is required to allow for et,mparison-of the ADV backup nitrogen system check valve leakage with the applicable limit.
SCE committed to complete these modifications for Units 2 and 3 during each unit's -
cycle five refueling outage.
By Reference 3, the NRC concurred with this assessment and requested. notification subsequent to completion of the modifications.
