Unit 1 - Self-Initiated Audits Gentleoen:

Reference is made to your letter dated December 27, 1982 pertaining to the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) recommendation of self-initiated audits.

INPO proposed to the NRC that utilities constructing nuclear power plants perform self-initiated audits. The Cincinnati Gas

& Electric Company stated in a letter to Mr. James Keppler dated October 12, 1982 that the Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company in-house audits were similar to the audits proposed by INPO, and that Cincinnati Gas & Electric would not participate in the formal INPO audit program.

The audits proposed by INPO fell into two major categories.

The first were proposed audits of the Architect-Engineer and the second were proposed field audits.

During the last half of 1982, Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company conducted the following audits of Sargent & Lundy, the Architect-Engineer for the Wm. H. Zimmer Nuclear Power Station. The following audits were conducted at Sargent & Lundy's office located in Chicago, Illinois:

1. QA Program Audit  !

2. HVAC Audit

3. Quality Confirmation Program, Design Control

4. Stress and Hanger Analysis for Cable Spread Room

5. Simplified Dynamic Analysis (SDA) Computer Program Procedures and Calculations

6. Cable Information System Program.

The following Sargent & Lundy audits will be conducted within the near future:

1. Piping Analysis

2. Ilanger Design.

The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company audits that will be l conducted at the site by CG&E Company are similar to audits proposed by INPO. Attached is a list of Cincinnati Gas &

Electric Company proposed 1983 audits.
