In performing the ILRT test, the core spray topping pump #121 was removed from service to replace it's seal packing. This was done because air was leaking due to the-ILRT pressure being introduced into the pump.

Since the seal is designed to hold water, not air, and since during LOCA conditions the pump would be operating, the air leakage experienced during the ILRT would not escape during actual LOCA conditions. The water leakage from the seal was acceptably low from a pump operability i

standpoint, but the air Icaitge was unacceptably high for the ILRT.

f Therefore, this LER does not represent a failure of the pump or seal.
