Subject:

IE Bulletin No. 80-21 Valve Yokes Supplied by Malcolm Foundry Company, Inc.

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

The subj ect bulletin required certain checks be made and information reported regarding the existence of parts cast by Malcolm Foundry in the valves of safety related systems. This letter is submitted as the report required by the subject bulletin.

Action Item 1 Licensees were directed to determine if any valves in safety related systems have parts cast by Malcolm Foundry Company, Inc. To determine this degree of detailed information, it was necessary to contact the valve vendors. As of the date of this letter, only Anchor Darling Valve Company has responded, stating that Cooper Nuclear Station has received no valves with parts cast by Malcolm Foundry. NPPD has corresponded with an additional 19 valve manufacturers. We currently do not have any response from these 19 vendors.

Action Item 2 Licensees were directed to inspect potentially faulty materials for cracks.

NPPD has not inspected any valves since no potentially faulty materials have been identified.

Action Item 3 Licensees were directed to take specific corrective actions concerning safety related valves with potentially faulty materials. NPPD has not identified any potentially faulty materials and has taken no corrective action.
