March 3, 1980 Director, Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn: Mr. Thomas A. Ippolito, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 3 Division of Operating Reactors U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Subject:

Semi-Annual Operating Report - Radioactive Effluents Cooper Nuclear Station NRC Docket No. 50-298, DPR-46

Dear Mr. Ippolito:

Cooper Nuclear Station Appendix B Environmental Technical Specification 5.4.1.b requires the subject report be submitted to the NRC within 60 days after January 1, 1980. As discussed with the staff, this letter is written to inform you that due to the length of time required to collect and process the necessary data, this report will be submit.ted approximately March 21, 1980. Since difficulties routinely arise in compiling this data within 60 days, the District wishes to discuss this inadequate preparation time requirement when we next have the opportunity to discuss our proposed Radiological Effluent (Appendix I) Technical Specifications with the staff.

If you require additional information prior to March 21, please contact me.

Sincerely, M

Jay M. Pilant Director of Licensing and Quality Assurance -
