DearMr.Denton:

UponreceiptofGenericLetterNo.82-28,aninternalreviewwasestablished, inordertoprovidetherequested additional information concerning ourInadequate CoreCooling(ICC)Instrumen-tationSystem'sconformance

Theinability tocomplywiththe90-dayresponsetimearisesfromalackofavailable information concerning thefinalization ofthereplacement in-corethermocouple system'sdesign.AEPSCiscurrently negotiating withthreevendorsforthecontracttoreplaceexistingin-corethermocouple system.Additionally, ongoingdiscussions arebeingconducted withWestinghouse regardi'ng theReactorVesselLevelInstrumentation System's(RVLIS)calibration difficulties andequipment location.

Accordingly, weherebyrequestanextension toJune15,1983,sothatwemayappropriately addresstheconcernsofGenericLetterNo.82-28.Wewishtostatefortherecord,however,thattheWestinghouse differential pressuremonitoring system(RVLIS)isinstalled, intheDonaldC.CookNuclearPlanttoserveastherequiredreactorcoolantinventory trackingsystem.AsstatedinGenericLetterNo.82-28,theNRChascompleted itsgenericreviewoftheRVLISanddeemeditacceptable fortrackingreactorcoolantsysteminventory.

Thesubcooling marginmonitorsareinstalled andoperational.
