Dear Mr. De1 George:

SUBJECT: RADIATIOi PROTECTION INSPECTION AT BRAIDWOOD (NRC INSPECTION-

REPORTS NO. 50-456/93002(DRSS); 50-457/93002(DRSS))

This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. A.' W. Mark 1cy of this office on

January 5 through 8, 1993. The inspection included a review of authcrized

activities for your Braidwood station facility. At the conclusion of the

inspection, the findings were discussed with those members of your staff-

identified in the enclosed report.

Areas examined during the inspection are identified .i_n-the report. Within

these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures i

and representative records,- observations, and interviews with personnel.

Based on the results of this inspection, certain of your activities appeared'

to be in violation- of NRC requirements, as specified _in the enclosed Notice of

Violation (Notice). This Severity Level IV violation is being cited because

there were multiple examples of improperly maintained contaminated area

boundaries and poorly defined contaminated reas. The violation is of. concern

because it represents a lack of attention to detail and poor exercise of care

to ensure that radiological areas are properly posted and controlled,

Although 10 CFR 2.201 requires you to submit to this office, within 20 days of j

your receipt of this Notice, _a written statement of explanation, we note' that-

this violation had been corrected and those actions were reviewed during this-

inspection. Therefore, no response with respect to this matter is required.-

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of j

1 this letter and the enclosed inspection report-will be placed in the NRC

Public Document Room.
