DOCKET NOS. 50-266 AND 50-301 NUREG-0737, ITEM I.D.2 PLANT SAFETY PARAMETER DISPLAY SYSTEM POINT BEACH NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 Our. October 1, 1984 letter, "New Plant Computer System",

provided the most recent information concerning the installation at Point Beach of the new plant process computer system (PPCS),

part of which is the safety assessment system (SAS), i.e., our version of the plant safety parameter display system. The purpose of this letter is to provide the revised schedule for installation of the PPCS/SAS and to request schedular extensions for completion of the SAS and several other items affected by the PPCS, all of which are contained in the NRC Confirmatory Order dated July 3, 1984.

We have just signed a contract with Combustion Engineering, Inc., for the manufacturing and delivery of the new PPCS and SAS hardware and software. In accordance with that contract, the new PPCS/SAS is scheduled to be installed no later than during the spring 1987 refueling outage for Unit 1 and the fall 1987 refueling outage for Unit 2. Final acceptance of the new computer system will occur l

approximately three months after the completion of the Unit 2 fall 1987 outage. This three month period will allow for availability testing of the new system.

We, therefore, request that certain schedular commitments contained in the July 3, 1984 Order, which are dependent upon the new PPCS installation, be modified to reflect the PPCS completion schedule as shown on Attachment 1.. We believe that this request is justified based.on the information provided and compensatory actions we are taking as discussed in our October 1, 1984 letter. All that remains to complete those compensatory actions is to finalize the installation of the new thermocouple monitoring and display equipment and the subcooling and reactor vessel water level monitoring equipment.

We expect to have these items completed by April 1985.
