Dear Mr. Ahearne:

c-The Palmer Township Board of Supervisors, acting on behalf of the 15,000 residents and more than 450 businesses and industries in Palmer, respectfully urge and implore the Commission to quickly return TMI #1 to operation at 3 Mile Island in Pennsylvania.

Past and continued idlement of this viable unit has become'an extreme and unnecessary burden on business, industry and the residents of Pennsylania. Higher than necessary electric costs are being borne by customers of Met-Ed while continued shut-down is daily adding to our nation's fuel and oil problems. If allowed to continue, it can only add ,

to a further decline in commercial-industrial development which )

will complicate an alresdy precarious employment picture for our residents.

We, as representatives of local government, urge the Commission to make every effort to agree to the release of this most important energy source. The people of Pennsylvania and New Jersey served by this unit are being unjustly penalized for the malfunction of Unit #2 which has been turned into a national media sideshow.

We plead with your Commission to save Pennsylvania industry and jobs by starting up TMI #1 at once. 3 Very truly yours, w Y&s - ' ~ ]
