CIN CIN N ATI. OHIO 4 5201 C A. BORGMAN N scNeon vict PatssoENT Docket No. 50-358 June 11, 1980 Mr. Harold Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Naclear Regulatory Commissf.on Washington, D.C. 20555 RE: WM. H. ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION -

UNIT 1 - SEPARATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS

Dear Mr. Denton:

In accordance with Enclosure 2 of your letter of November 30, 1979 to The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company, a field audit of the installed electric equipment and systems to determine conformance with the separation criteria of the Wm. H. Zimmer Nuclear Power Station FSAR and Fire Protection Evaluation Report was conducted. The audit examined a random sample of approximately 16% of the total installed safety related cables covering all Class lE Systems in accordance with written procedures.

The audit team was composed of two Sargent & Lundy Electrical Staff Engineers, one CG&E General Engineering Department Electrical Staff Engineer, and one CG&E Electric Production Department Staff Engineer. None of the four engineers were involved in the design or installation of the equipment or systems that were audited. The report of the audit team was submitted to and reviewed by The Cincinnati Gas

& Electric Company and the Sargent & Lundy Wm. H. Zimmer Electrical Project Group.

The results of the review showed that only one cable was in violation of separation requirements. That cable was laying against a metal fire wall inside a main control room panel, and had not been tied back to the chute provided for this purpose. The corrective action to be taken will be to tie back the cable identified, and to check all cf the metal fire walls in the main control room panels.
