Dear Mr. Gigliotti:

This is in response to your May 25, 1988 letter requesting an extension of the completion date for the replacement of your perimeter intrusion detection system.

We agree that the extension is warranted in view of the impact of anticipated protected area fencing modifications which are required by the proposed compara-bility upgrade changes to 10 CFR 73.46. It is expected that you will meet this extended schedule. Further extensions will not be favorably considered in the absence of unasual and unforseen circumstances.

Accordingly, your May 25 request to extend the completion date for the upgrade of your intrusion detection system schedule until July 1,1989 is approved. We are hereby revising License Condition 9.4 of Safeguards Amendment SG-1 to your License No. SNM-368, effective immediately, to read as follows:

9.4 The licensee shall install the replacement "intrusion detection alarm system" for the perimeter of the protected area (PA), as described in Attachments A and B of his February 19, 1986 letter. The procurement, installation and implementation schedule for such replacement system shall be completed, tested, certified and placed into service by July 1, 1989. Until such time that the replacement alarm system is operational, the licensee shall provide all of the measures set forth in Supplemental License Condition 9.4.A (as previously issued by letter dated October 22,1985).

Sincerely, geoggg sy@Q George W. McCorkle, Acting Chief Licensing Branch C PMU T Division of Safeguards l\ gt and Transportation, NMSS Ay yff e
