Carolina Power 5 Light Company (CP&L) hereby submits information concerning the implementation status of the Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) for the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. This information is submitted in response to NRC Generic Let;ter 89-06, "Task Action Plan Item I.D.2 Safety Parameter Display System 10CFR50.54(f)," dated April 12, 1989. For the purposes of meeting the SPDS requirements of NUREG-0737, Supplement 1, the SHNPP SPDS is defined as a subsystem of the plant Emergency Response Facility Information System (ERFIS) computer. This SPDS subsystem includes the six critical safety function status tree displays and the top-level SPDS display. Other computer functions are available within the ERFIS computer, including third level SPDS displays (available for predefined variable trending), however, these systems are not included in the. bases for meeting the SPDS requirements of NUREG-0737, Supplement 1. The SHNPP SPDS has received extensive NRC review and approval including an NRC design verification audit conducted March 5-7, 1985. Documentation of the acceptability of the SPDS is provided in NRC SHNPP Safety Evaluation Report (SER) Supplement 4, Section 18.2.

Based upon the completion of the SPDS Checklist attached to Generic Letter 89-06 and taking into account the information provided in NUREG-1342, CPKL hereby certifies that the SPDS fully meets the requirements of NUREG-0737 Supplement 1. In addition, CPbL hereby commits to maintain supporting documentation for three years, including the completed checklist and photographs used to establish SPDS implementation status as r equired by Generic Letter 89-06.
