Dear Dr. Jackson:

I am writing regarding the proposed expansion of high-level radioactive waste storage capacity at Carolina Power & Light's (CP & L) Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant in Wake County, North Cerolina.

The CP & L application has resulted in a great deel of public debate, including a Request for a Hearing and Petition to Intervene by the Orange County Board of Commissioners and the passage of several resolutions of concern by counties and municiualities in the region. These local government resolutions have called for a public fomm through which concerns about CP & L.'s application can be expressed.

I understand the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has the discretion to provide an opportunity for local citizens to express their concerns and views regarding the CP & L application. An open femm for the exprersion of views and concerns is important for assuring the public that the NRC process is open and fair, and I encourage you to schedule such a meeting in the near future.

Thank you for your time and considerati Sincerel ,
